RELATIONAL SOMATIC PSYCHOTHERAPY IN TORONTO
WHAT IS RELATIONAL SOMATIC PSYCHOTHERAPY
Relational Somatic Psychotherapy is an integrated approach that considers the mind, body, and spirit. As a relational therapist, I bring empathy, compassion and a genuine interest and willingness to engage in my client’s experiences deeply. I believe that we all have within us the resources for healing pain and living a rewarding life. As relational beings, our brains are wired to respond to positive and negative relational experiences. As such, our sense of value and self-meaning are often connected to our earliest, and most meaningful relationships taught us, either consciously or not, in what to believe.
Together we will explore your beliefs about who you are. We’ll look at what your role in your relationship and the world is. We’ll assess what serves you and what limits you. For instance, are you able to identify and communicate your needs? Do you have a clear sense of your boundaries? Are you able to enforce them or relax them depending on the situation?
In additional to bringing unconscious psychological patterns into your conscious awareness, we will also bring a gentle awareness to the body. Research shows that it can be difficult for traditional talk therapy to reach the deep, core emotional memories as they’re stored in the non-verbal and non-rational parts of the brain. Often, to achieve transformation, we need to access the feelings in the body correlated to our thoughts so that we can connect to our stored emotions. Our body is our emotional container, and so often we disconnect from our body and compartmentalize and separate our mind from our body.
Through this relational somatic process, you will increasingly start experiencing more freedom, and comfort and confidence in who you are. Old beliefs and physical constrictions that interfere with creativity, sense of aliveness and well-being and your physical health will start to lift.

THE RELATIONAL SOMATIC PSYCHOTHERAPY RELATIONSHIP
I create a safe place for you to start your exploration journey. My relationship with you is central to our work. I believe that the client-therapist relationship plays a fundamental role in the therapeutic process and successful outcome.
To get the most out of counselling, it’s helpful for you to maintain momentum in your sessions. With regularly set sessions, we can usually make progress faster than when our sessions are spread apart. In my experience, weekly sessions are most productive. Some people feel that bi-weekly works for them. I like to honor and meet my clients where they are at.
